white magic

Dressing up is something I love. So dressing up to take photos for my blog, is nothing out of the ordinary. Whatever I am loving, or wearing to death, is what I want to blog about. At the moment I am obsessed with white, (as you can tell by my recent blog post on white here) but I am especially loving white lace. Enter Zara. This white lace dress is perfect for the ridiculous almost 100 degree days we are experiencing here in New York. Gorgeous lace detail, perfect length for both flats or a cute wedge and yet breezy enough to endure the scorching heat of day (and night!). If only my camera was that resilient! Yep, my camera failed on me today. Mid shot at the 9/11 World Trade Centre Memorial. Black screen = camera fail. Who knew?! So what was supposed to be an afternoon photo op from Central Park, ended up a spontaneous iPhone post as we waited for the subway. One thing I have learnt in my time here?? New York is never predictable. Gotta love it. x K

fashion canyon

On my way to school, and totally getting my print vibe on. Hello Versace! Well almost. I am currently having a major brand crush on this dress by Clover Canyon. Every piece in their range is crafted with an amazing, wow, gorgeous print (think loud and bright and perfect for both ME and this season!)  I am especially loving the timeless shift silhouette, and with it's subtle nod to the scarf print trend, it's so right for summer. BUT as with any fabulous print piece, I urge you to not discard from your wardrobe too quickly! Simply become a hoarder like me (hello taking up two wardrobes at home!) and you will soon see that a great print will last a life time x K

hamptons cool

It's officially summer here in New York. Hot, humid heat in a city full of buildings and concrete is not cool. Ha! So being the New Yorker that I am, today I escaped the heat to the Hamptons. East Hampton in fact. So que this breezy baby doll dress that can withstand the humidity while simultaneously looking both chic and effortless, AND with hopefully just enough sparkle to distract from the too hot to wear down hair do! (Couldn't live without the top knot in this weather!) Add some simple silver accessories, like this DVF clutch which I currently have on high rotation, and it's the perfect outfit for both sight seeing during the day yet fabulous enough for cocktails come sunset! I'm not going to lie I even threw in a clambake for dinner just so I could pretend my life is straight off the set of Revenge! Hamptons bliss x K

black and white

Last week as I wandered around the streets of Soho I was particularly drawn to the white on white look that so many people are wearing here. (You can check out last weeks post on the in-store white looks here). While I love how it feels fresh and summery for those few extremely scorching days we get to enjoy, I am completely aware it's not practical for those other 350 days of the year. (Especially in Melbourne!) So what better way to make white worthy for all year round than to team it back with black. (And considering my obsession with black and white photography, how appropriate!) Using the most essential white piece you will buy all season, the white shirt (especially this one that ties at the front!) try adding a contrasting piece in black. I especially love the strong statement of white worn with these black wide leg pants and couldn't resist adding these lush monotone heels for a fun take on such a classic look. And when I'm feeling a little less polished, I will definitely be tying it lower to my hips and rocking it with my black leather pants, or even more casually with a black maxi skirt or dress. If you are one of the lucky ones that can shimmy into white denim, try reversing the look with a black shirt or jacket. Black and white, all year around. How perfectly fabulous x K

bright lights big city

Two amazing things have happened to me. Firstly, I saw Ricky Martin. Ok so yes it was in Evita, not dancing in some club, but still. Ricky Martin! I'm thinking that's a pretty good celeb sighting (which is only probably trumped by once seeing Posh Spice getting off my plane, and stumbling across the Sex and the City 2 Movie being filmed in Morocco!) And secondly, I fell in love with this dress. Quite frankly it holds the key to my happiness because it ticks so many of my current fashion prerequisites. Photo print. Check. Sequins. Check. Oversized wear with anything and can hide a "feeling fat day" silhouette. Check. In fact, I really feel fabulous, not only because I'm standing in the middle of Times Square about to watch Ricky Martin, but because I have this dress on. Oh and a blow out (yes blow wave here in the USofA) helps too. I am loving so many different looks this season, so I ask you, what are your fashion prerequisites for right now? x K

from the rooftops

Nothing quite takes my breath away like the New York City skyline. It is one of those views that I could never ever get tired of. Like being near the Eiffel Tower at dusk, or watching the sunset over Santorini, or seeing a brand new pair of Louboutins (before their glorious red sole starts to wear off!). Only better. And to me, an amazing print dress holds the same appeal. This season I am having a love affair with scarf prints, and I think there is nothing more fabulous than a scarf print dress. A nod to the amazing Versace catwalks of SS 12, anything scarf printed is very on trend right now. I just couldn't walk past this amazing BCBG Max Azria maxi with its gorgeous front pleat detail and sweeping floor length skirt. And while I think it is perfectly glamorous for these soaring New York temperatures (even hotter from the rooftops!), Im willing to say I will probably attempt it back home with some sort of black fur to keep out the cold. How fabulous! So now I ask, what takes your breathe away? x K

mint obsession

I'm having a mint moment. One where I want to paint my walls mint, make mint infused salads and wear mint, preferably tonally color blocked and head to toe. And while I promise you I will attempt all three of these while I am in New York (potentially paint my nails, not the walls of our apartment!) I am completely aware how hard this color can be for the Australian winter. So I was delighted to find this boucle jacket in Zara while I was in London recently. A fabulous icy mint green, with a cool zip front and raw edge trim, it is perfect for wearing now with leather or denim (and will be equally amazing come summer over a crisp white dress). Fabulous? I think so! x K

california dreams

I have to admit it's not hard to work when it is 28 degrees. Shopping in the sunshine, what's not to love? Los Angeles has so far been the perfect mix of summer weather, Californian inspiration and a more chilled out vibe as I round up the trip. My go-to shopping outfit can only be described as stylish comfort. I'm loving these amazingly comfy cute ballet flats (I am totally crushing on everything metallic right now), and mixed back with a Prada influenced retro skirt (could I love the tropical scenery of this print anymore?) I feel instantly glam. A simple white tank and vintage bag are the perfect way to round out the outfit. Yep, I am all about Californication x K

head on

It's getting extremely cold outside which means it's time to break out all things cosy and warm. While obviously that means luxurious knitwear, chic coats (yes I want a Burberry trench, BAD) and faux fur (and more faux fur!!) all of which I LOVE, I have to admit I'm a sucker for head wear. Be it a hat, or beanie, or scarf tied on my head, I feel like there is no better way to complete an outfit. Especially in winter. And so today, Anzac today (Lest We Forget), I deem to dress (my head) up and go vintage. I'm thinking what better way to feel happier about this terrible weather than to dress up and go out and feel, well, fabulous. Ok it's true, I'll be slothing on the couch later in my trackies (how Aussie of me!) but for now, I'm blissfully content. It's amazing what a vintage inspired hat and a 30 year old dress will do for you. Nothing ever looks bad when you wear a fabulous hat. Go on, try it x K

torn apart

I have always had a thing for ripped denim. Comfy, casual, slightly baggy, very ripped. I love the comments I get when I unexpectedly wear it with amazing heels and even more so when teamed with this fabulous ombre faux fur (which I anticipate will become my favourite jacket this winter!) I'm hoping this trend will stick around for a while as I have my eyes on this amazing ACNE ripped pencil skirt for summer. Sigh! x K
