wayfarer magic

I am going to admit that I don't normally buy anything from Zimmermann. Don't normally as in never have before. I know, I know, its a cult Australian label with a huge fan base, but I have always found myself reluctant to hand over so much for a dress (when I know how much it costs to make it!) Yet for some reason this season I have found myself drawn to their gorgeous prints, and feminine yet stylish shapes. One of my favourite purchases is this black maxi dress. Called the Wayfarer Lattice Sundress, I absolutely love the cut away neckline, the timeless flowy skirt and the gorgeous sheer lace trim that means I can wear it both casual and more dressy with heels. And while it also comes in white, and a classic Zimmerman floral print, I just had to have it in black. (I'm thinking chunky wedges and a statement necklace for Christmas Day dressing!!) And teamed here with my equally classic wayfarer raybans (did you know they now come foldable?! AMAZE!!) and flats, it was the perfect dress for some dock side cocktails. After all it is the festive season x K

a gypsy summer

This time of year is always so crazy. And it mostly involves me running crazily from place to place, attempting to see everyone for Christmas celebrations, all the while trying to wrap up everything at work (and wrap presents!!), put up the tree, pack for heading down the beach (a family tradition) oh and remember to buy food/eat.
So it's the little moments, like the gorgeous sunset reflecting through the trees in the Melbourne streets, that remind me to take a moment to just stop and breathe. (Yes, while guzzling a smoothie at the same time - a girl has to multi task!) This (finally!!!) hot weather has given me a reason to finally break out some new summer pieces, and I am loving this Gypsy05 silk maxi dress. A gorgeous tribal inspired print, that I know I will love for seasons to come. Ahhhh got to love Melbourne in summer. Just remember to breathe x K

hamptons cool

It's officially summer here in New York. Hot, humid heat in a city full of buildings and concrete is not cool. Ha! So being the New Yorker that I am, today I escaped the heat to the Hamptons. East Hampton in fact. So que this breezy baby doll dress that can withstand the humidity while simultaneously looking both chic and effortless, AND with hopefully just enough sparkle to distract from the too hot to wear down hair do! (Couldn't live without the top knot in this weather!) Add some simple silver accessories, like this DVF clutch which I currently have on high rotation, and it's the perfect outfit for both sight seeing during the day yet fabulous enough for cocktails come sunset! I'm not going to lie I even threw in a clambake for dinner just so I could pretend my life is straight off the set of Revenge! Hamptons bliss x K

black and white

Last week as I wandered around the streets of Soho I was particularly drawn to the white on white look that so many people are wearing here. (You can check out last weeks post on the in-store white looks here). While I love how it feels fresh and summery for those few extremely scorching days we get to enjoy, I am completely aware it's not practical for those other 350 days of the year. (Especially in Melbourne!) So what better way to make white worthy for all year round than to team it back with black. (And considering my obsession with black and white photography, how appropriate!) Using the most essential white piece you will buy all season, the white shirt (especially this one that ties at the front!) try adding a contrasting piece in black. I especially love the strong statement of white worn with these black wide leg pants and couldn't resist adding these lush monotone heels for a fun take on such a classic look. And when I'm feeling a little less polished, I will definitely be tying it lower to my hips and rocking it with my black leather pants, or even more casually with a black maxi skirt or dress. If you are one of the lucky ones that can shimmy into white denim, try reversing the look with a black shirt or jacket. Black and white, all year around. How perfectly fabulous x K

drape perfection

Every now and then I stumble across something that I think is perfection. Today, it was a piece by Helmut Lang thanks to his boutique in Soho (and I die that I could walk there from "home"!). He truly has achieved something fabulous with his amazing range of jersey skirts. While each one drapes just perfectly over your curves, I love that fact that they are so versatile. The twist front version (other versions can be seen here and here) is  perfect to wear out at night, think on your waist with glammed up shoes and accessories. But!!!!! It can be easily styled for the day by simply lowering it onto your hips for a more casual feel. The only question now is can I resist buying another one?! I suggest you hit Shopbop now before they are all gone! x K

P.S How amazing is this graffiti wall? It is just right by our place on Houston St. and I couldn't resist taking photos in front of it. Fabulous!

bright lights big city

Two amazing things have happened to me. Firstly, I saw Ricky Martin. Ok so yes it was in Evita, not dancing in some club, but still. Ricky Martin! I'm thinking that's a pretty good celeb sighting (which is only probably trumped by once seeing Posh Spice getting off my plane, and stumbling across the Sex and the City 2 Movie being filmed in Morocco!) And secondly, I fell in love with this dress. Quite frankly it holds the key to my happiness because it ticks so many of my current fashion prerequisites. Photo print. Check. Sequins. Check. Oversized wear with anything and can hide a "feeling fat day" silhouette. Check. In fact, I really feel fabulous, not only because I'm standing in the middle of Times Square about to watch Ricky Martin, but because I have this dress on. Oh and a blow out (yes blow wave here in the USofA) helps too. I am loving so many different looks this season, so I ask you, what are your fashion prerequisites for right now? x K

all that shimmers

I love everything that shimmers. From metallic shoes (these are on my NY dream list) and sparkley clutches that go with any outfit (this one is hello amazing), to amazing beaded flapper dresses that never go out of style (if only I could afford this Gucci). And with embellishment all over the latest A/W 13 catwalks, glitz and glamour is set to continue into the new season. So for an easy spin on the trend, I am loving luxurious fabrics that shimmer gloriously in the rare autumn sunshine. This nude glitter dress, although simplistic in shape, is made from fabulous fabric makes me feel like a million dollars. Sparkley enough for day, glamourous enough for night. And while teamed back with black is perfect for the cooler months, a nude heel will be equally fabulous come spring. I know every girl loves a bit of frosting, so try it. x K

mint obsession

I'm having a mint moment. One where I want to paint my walls mint, make mint infused salads and wear mint, preferably tonally color blocked and head to toe. And while I promise you I will attempt all three of these while I am in New York (potentially paint my nails, not the walls of our apartment!) I am completely aware how hard this color can be for the Australian winter. So I was delighted to find this boucle jacket in Zara while I was in London recently. A fabulous icy mint green, with a cool zip front and raw edge trim, it is perfect for wearing now with leather or denim (and will be equally amazing come summer over a crisp white dress). Fabulous? I think so! x K

california dreams

I have to admit it's not hard to work when it is 28 degrees. Shopping in the sunshine, what's not to love? Los Angeles has so far been the perfect mix of summer weather, Californian inspiration and a more chilled out vibe as I round up the trip. My go-to shopping outfit can only be described as stylish comfort. I'm loving these amazingly comfy cute ballet flats (I am totally crushing on everything metallic right now), and mixed back with a Prada influenced retro skirt (could I love the tropical scenery of this print anymore?) I feel instantly glam. A simple white tank and vintage bag are the perfect way to round out the outfit. Yep, I am all about Californication x K

neon lights

The sugary tones of London have me inspired. For pastels, yes, but more for how I can take a gorgeous pastel dress and turn it into something a little unexpected. So what better way to break up a soft hue than to add a loud, neon pink trim. With so many neon accessories out there right now, like this Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and this Timex watch, its easy to add a touch of neon to your life. It's the perfect balance between too sweet and too sour. And because I'm just too old to rock head to toe neon (aren't I?!) it's the perfect way to update your look for right now. Try it x K

leather out

There is something funny about coming to London to work on Australian SS12, and find it raining. And cold. Although I guess it is London, so what can I expect! Apparently it's been raining for the past month, and while I love to rug up and enjoy the London winters (hello cosy uggs on my feet and yummy mulled wine!), I was really hoping for some sunshine. Puddles aside, its been the perfect weather to team my wear with anything leather leggings with this seasons coolest (or should that be hottest!?) new trends. While I have always been a leather jacket girl, I'm really loving anything leather right now. I especially have a massive crush on this All Saints jacket in gorgeous metallic, but would also love to try this Oasis leather skirt in too cute pastels. What a perfect way to bring leather to your summer wardrobe! x K

head on

It's getting extremely cold outside which means it's time to break out all things cosy and warm. While obviously that means luxurious knitwear, chic coats (yes I want a Burberry trench, BAD) and faux fur (and more faux fur!!) all of which I LOVE, I have to admit I'm a sucker for head wear. Be it a hat, or beanie, or scarf tied on my head, I feel like there is no better way to complete an outfit. Especially in winter. And so today, Anzac today (Lest We Forget), I deem to dress (my head) up and go vintage. I'm thinking what better way to feel happier about this terrible weather than to dress up and go out and feel, well, fabulous. Ok it's true, I'll be slothing on the couch later in my trackies (how Aussie of me!) but for now, I'm blissfully content. It's amazing what a vintage inspired hat and a 30 year old dress will do for you. Nothing ever looks bad when you wear a fabulous hat. Go on, try it x K

luck be a lady

Nothing says lady like glamour more than pleats, so I was extremely excited to find this dress almost forgotten in the back of my wardrobe. The spearmint hue, micro print and fine pleat skirt make this dress very perfect for right now. I couldn't resist toughening up the look with a faux fur gilet and ankle boots. Whats not to love? x K
